2. BPSC 69th Exam Pattern 2023

I. Preliminary Examination (Part-1)

Before delving into the syllabus of the BPSC Prelims Exam, it is essential for candidates to familiarize themselves with the BPSC 69th CCE Prelims Exam Pattern. Kindly refer to the table below for the detailed exam pattern.

Note:

(i) Question-wise selection of any one answer out of multiple choice answers will be required.
(ii) There will be negative markings for wrong answers in the preliminary examination.
(iii) The preliminary examination will be only a screening test, on the basis of which the candidates will be selected for the main examination. The number of candidates to be shortlisted for the Main Examination will be ten (10) times the total number of vacancies notified. All the candidates who obtain the same cut-off marks category-wise will be selected for the main examination.

II. Mains Examination (Part-2)

Candidates who have successfully cleared the BPSC Prelims Exam and achieved the minimum cut-off marks set by the Commission are invited to appear for the BPSC Main Exam. It is important to note that the BPSC Prelims Exam is conducted for qualifying purposes only, meaning the scores obtained in this exam do not hold significance. The BPSC 69th CCE Main Exam consists of a qualifying paper in General Hindi.

In addition to this, there are two General Studies papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each carrying 300 marks. And there is an Optional Paper that candidates had previously selected while filling out the Application Form. The Optional Paper also carries 300 marks. A list of the 34 Optional Subjects available for selection is provided below.

Note: 

  • General Hindi Paper is qualifying in nature, with a requirement of 30% marks, and its score is not considered in the merit calculation.
  • Questions in General Studies are available in both Hindi and English.
  • The score for the merit list is based on the total marks obtained in GS Paper 1, GS Paper 2, and the Optional Paper, which amounts to a total of 900 marks.
  • Candidates who are placed appropriately on the merit list are called for the interview round.
  • There is no negative marking in the descriptive question papers.
  • To qualify for the interview, candidates need to attempt all the papers.
  • The interview round is both scoring and qualifying in nature.

3. BPSC 69th CCE Syllabus 2023 – Prelims, Mains

  • General Science Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and salient features of the history of Bihar.
  • General Geography and geographical division of Bihar and its major river systems.
  • Indian Polity and Economy and major changes in the economy of Bihar in the post-independence period.
  • Indian National Movement and the part played by Bihar in it and also Questions on General Mental Ability.
  • Questions on General Science will cover general appreciation and understanding of science, including matters of everyday observation and experience, as may be expected of a well-educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific discipline.
  • In History, the emphasis will be on a broad general understanding of the subject in its social, economic, and political aspects.
  • The candidates are expected to be familiar with the broad aspects of the history of Bihar. In Geography, the emphasis will be on the geography of India and Bihar.
  • Questions on the Geography of India and Bihar will relate to the physical, social, and economic Geography of the country including the main features of Indian agricultural and natural resources.
  • Questions of Indian Polity and Economy will test knowledge of the country’s political system, Panchayati Raj, community development, and planning in India and Bihar.
  • Questions on the Indian National Movement will relate to the nature and character of the nineteenth-century resurgence, growth of nationalism, and attainment of Independence and candidates will be expected to answer questions on the role of Bihar in the freedom movement of India.

4. BPSC 69th Mains Syllabus 2023

General Hindi (Qualifying Paper)

  • Grammar: 30 Marks
  • Essay: 30 Marks
  • Syntax: 25 Marks
  • Summarisation: 15 Marks

Out of the 100 marks, candidates are required to secure the qualifying marks in the paper. For this qualifying paper, a good book of school standards is enough.

General Studies

Up until this point, the papers in which candidates have appeared have been of a qualifying nature. Both the BPSC Prelims Exam and the General Hindi paper serve as qualifying papers, meaning that the marks obtained in these papers do not contribute to the merit lists. The actual BPSC examination commences now with the General Studies Papers and the Optional Paper. There are two papers for the General Studies and one paper for the Optional subject. Each paper carries a weightage of 300 marks, resulting in a total of 900 marks for all these papers combined.
