India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 – Salary

GDS employees are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with applicable allowances.

The TRCA carries an annual increase of 3%, subject to the applicable GDS Rules. GDS employees are also eligible for Dearness Allowance and certain other benefits as prescribed by the Department of Posts.

Important: GDS posts are not regular Central Government employee posts and their service conditions and entitlements are different from those of regular Central Government employees.

Branch Postmaster (BPM)

The BPM is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office and related India Post Payments Bank services. The role can include postal operations, mail delivery, customer services and marketing of postal products.

A selected BPM must arrange suitable accommodation for operating the Branch Post Office and is required to reside in the post village.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

The ABPM assists in postal operations and may perform duties including:

• Sale of stamps and stationery
• Mail conveyance and delivery
• Doorstep delivery
• IPPB transactions
• Assisting the BPM in postal operations

Dak Sevak

Dak Sevaks perform delivery and other postal duties and may also be assigned marketing, business procurement and related work. Dak Sevaks are required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of their attached Post Office.

The selection process is based on a system-generated merit list.

Step 1 – Class 10th Marks

The merit list will be prepared using marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination (Class 10). Marks are aggregated into a percentage up to four decimal places.

Step 2 – Merit List

Candidates with higher eligible Class 10th marks will generally have a higher position in the merit list. Where applicable, grades/points are converted into marks according to the prescribed rules.

Step 3 – Document Verification
